Michael is a Senior Scientific Specialist in geoscience data management, curation, and preservation at the Illinois State Geological Survey. At ISGS, his current focus is on managing data for major DOE- and IDNR-funded projects such as CarbonSAFE-Illinois and the Illinois Abandoned Mine Lands program. He also works to catalog and digitize ISGS’s vast collection of documents, reports, and publications. He specializes in scientific data curation and metadata. His background includes work spanning areas from ultrafast spectroscopy and quantum dynamics to semantic technologies, designing data processing workflows, and working with RDF metadata and triplestores/graph databases. He holds a Master of Science in Information and an M.S. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Michigan, as well as a B.S. in Physics and a B.A. in Political Science from Michigan State University.
